Garden Design- What is your vision?
We create a space that your family can manage, taking into consideration the factors of sunlight and shade, slope or grade, accessibility, invasive growth, fencing, etc. We dig, pull, pick and use any means of manual clearing to create the preliminary boundaries of your garden. No fuel cost is good for everybody, and hand tilling does the least amount of damage to your microbial life. We create your beds, boxes, terraces, circles… Whatever foundation is best for your family, your budget and the space you have chosen.

Soil Health- Feed it, if you want to be fed.
Unless you have a pre-existing source of organic material ready to go, we will discuss soil amendments to begin giving your microbial life some food. Happy microbes= happy vegetables. These microscopic creatures stimulate the processes by which nutrients will ultimately end up on your plate. Soil health is the MOST IMPORTANT factor in a healthy garden.

Irrigation- Let it Flow
Your irrigation system is based mostly on two factors; the layout of your garden, and your budget. Things to consider: Watering by hand can be very time consuming and gives water to weeds. Sprinklers save some time, but may need to be rotated and also help weeds to grow. Drip systems cost up front, but you can set the water to a timer, and your edible plants will receive all the water intended for them. Permanent sprinklers can also be run on a timer, and do not need straight lines and right angles but will also be appreciated by weeds. We can provide and install the system that meets your needs.

Compost- Household Alchemy
Compost education and maintenance is key to a healthy garden and helps keep money in your pocket. We will discuss with you materials that are available on your property that can be combined with your food wastes, to create rich compost, ready to be spread on your garden. See SOIL HEALTH.

Resource Management- If you don't use it, you lose it.
We can show you readily available materials that can be used in your compost and garden, for multiple purposes. From grass clippings to heat compost, to fallen leaves for pathway cover, there is so much utility growing all around us. Knowing how to use these resources help to keep costs low.

What To Grow- Keep it simple, and learn from mistakes.
Much of this question will depend on the size of your garden space. You can grow more than you think in the smallest of spaces. We will strategize based on your family’s food desires and create a spread of crops to give life to you and your garden. We want to make a plan that will provide abundance, layering the plantings and rotating the beds for a consistent flow of food and soil health. We can provide the seed, healthy starts, planting, etc. We will also talk about the benefit of planting flowers in your garden.

Maintenance- Now What?
Depending on your needs from week to week, we can leave your garden completely in your hands, or provide regular maintenance work in your garden. Whether its weeding, cleaning, mulching, compost maintenance, bed preparation, transplanting, direct seeding, and trips to the hardware store, we can cover for you to keep your garden happy and your family healthy.

Harvest- Hungry?
Come home to find fresh produce from your own garden, sitting on your doorstep. Edible plants like to know their work is appreciated and what better way to return their love than by eating what they produce for dinner? We can harvest regularly according to your needs and see to it that extra produce finds a good home through our Share Abundance Program or cooking classes taught in your kitchen.
